A while ago we were privileged to do a Harvest wedding styled shoot at the stunning Pretoria farm-style wedding venue, Rosemary Hill. Photographer Genevieve from Genevieve Fundaro Fine Art Photography contacted me to be part of this shoot. When I saw the inspiration boards of what she had in mind, I definitely wanted to be a part.
Why the theme?
A harvest wedding is a beautiful ode to a wedding centred around family, good food, and the fullness of life. This tranquil and rich theme is achieved with the rustic charms of raw wood crates, golden hay bales, and loose flower arrangements of proteas, greenery and fynbos, set on the background of a beautiful working farm. Tables filled with yummy ripe fruits, golden ginger beer and indulgent treats set on soft Cream accents freshen up the look and give it the splendour of a wedding.
About the décor & styling:
We decided to go with berries, fynbos, proteas and various kinds of fruit for the table decorations. We wanted the tables to look ‘overflowing’ to suit the harvest theme. Acorns & Pine cones also added to the warm rich colours that was used. Old Books available from Moi Decor‘s rental catalogue and various other flower pots also prettified the table.
A week before the actual shoot I stumbled across The Little Trading Company who made the sweetest miniature ceramic pears. I just had to get my hands on some for the shoot, don’t you agree that they are just the cutest?! The “Love” wire behind the chairs were custom made by Bigboy from Africa Arts & Crafts, Garden World. And the table runner is by lovilee {Price available on request}.
Models & Dresses:
We had three models that were part of the shoot, their make-up was done by Fashion make-up by Rocio. The dresses were supplied by Vonvé Bridal Couture, truly some of the most lovilee dresses I have seen to date! What makes them so great is that they come with various accessories to customise your look.
The dress used in this scene is the FIJI gown, this fanciful tulle overlay mermaid silhouette wedding gown features a sweetheart neckline, scalloped hemline, beaded floral appliqué details and a bold ruffled floral embellishment at the waist. This dress features detachable cap sleeves and a detachable train.
About the Stationary:
I contacted Chrisinda from Western Cape based, Hello Dolly, to hear whether she’d be interested in designing some stationary items for the shoot. She was very keen to help us out and created stationary even more beautiful than I could ever have imagined. We printed it on brown craft paper, but am sure it would’ve looked just as lovilee on a white background. Just love the whimsical, yet rustic feel of the table numbers, name tags and the menu’s that we also used as serviette rings.
How to make your own Jam/Honey bottle favours:
My mind was a blur when I tried to think what one would give your guests as favour at a Harvest style wedding. An apple? A Pear? …then I had a moment… what about a little pot of honey or jam? What I used for the Jam was some re-purposed Stage 2 purity bottles that I stuck some rope around using craft glue. I added a label that was designed by Hello Dolly, but the lid was a problem. Why would one want to receive a gift that says ‘baby food’ on the lid? My initial thoughts was to spray paint the lids, but I am sure that that would have taken quite a few coats. I then tried my skill at washi taping it {using a 5mm tape} and wow, it looked LOVILEE.
The lovilee eats and treats:
Inge Newport from The Cake Cartel is one truly talented lady. Not only is she a lecturer in Interior design at TUT, she also creates the most lovilee delicacies, almost too pretty to eat. We could not believe our eyes when we saw what she had brought with to the shoot. {You will be wowed in a candy table post later this year! Also part of this shoot}.
