Hummus is one of my favourite delicacies, so I decided to share a go-to Quick and easy hummus recipe with you. I remember my husband organising a picnic for us on our first (dating) anniversary and me refusing to eat this ‘funny stuff’. Later that year I went to Cape Town for work and was served hummus with bread-sticks as entrée, I ended up ordering my main with hummus and had more bread-sticks and hummus for dessert. Needless to say, I am now hooked!
Hummus is popular in the Middle East and in Middle Eastern cuisine around the globe. This is one of the easiest and nicest recipes for summer entertaining and we have a few other that it can be paired with, including this delicious fennel and grapefruit salad.
Hummus recipe
Ingredients
- 1 Can of Chick Peas (Drained)
- 1 tsp of Tahini paste
- 3 cloves of garlic crushed
- Olive Oil
- Half a Lemon juiced
- Salt and Pepper to taste
Method
- Put of all the ingredients (except for the olive oil) together in a blender and blend.
- Slowly add the olive oil to the paste until you get a smooth consistency.
- Season to taste.
Serving suggestion – you can eat hummus on ciabatta or use it as a tasty dip with vegetables!
PS: did you know that you can use the chick-pea water to make meringues with? It literally froths up like egg-whites if you add a small amount of Cream of Tartar and then sugar to taste.
