Genavieve and Stephen will be tying the knot at the end of the year at Shepstone Gardens, but opted to have a fun Johannesburg Inner-city engagement shoot with Wynand van der Merwe Photography. The images were taken at Common Ground, Maboneng. The couple will be making use of ‘Babies Breath’ for their wedding, so opted to use a small bouquet for the shoot. The flowers were purchased from the Fourways Flower Market.
Our shared family values, together with our love for Christ and serving in our local church has been and still is the foundation our relationship grows on. We are a perfect fit. Our personalities are polar opposites. He is a calm and quiet, patient and gentle and responsible introvert. I am the loud, fidgety, funny, irresponsible and emotional extrovert. But beyond mannerisms and at a deeper level our values, goals, interests, personal tastes and spiritual walk is so in sync. Stephen is me and I am him, only in a different personality.
The couples’ shoot experience
Who we are as individuals was on full display during our engagement shoot. Wynand seemed to easily understand our personalities and helped us feel comfortable and proud of the dynamics of who Stephen and I are when we are together in front of the camera.
This is the essence of our relationship that Wynand captured in the location, the attire, the soft and gentle bouquet he had me hold and his flawless composition. I’ve been told that Stephen looks at me lovingly, but I’ve never noticed it until I saw these photos. I’ve also been told that I smile like a child when I’m with Stephen, and I’ve never noticed until I saw these photos. What was supposed to just be an engagement shoot has turned into an enriching and revealing experiencing for our relationship, all because Wynand captured our truth.
