The Christmas countdown has begun and to get you inspired with ideas for your Christmas table I share some black and white Christmas decorating ideas. Yolandi from the blog A Zesty Life and I teamed up to do this monochromatic Christmas shoot. There were two different table space set ups for the shoot. The one that I share below and then the other over on her blog.
When I think about Christmas decorations, I think of Christmas lights, Christmas cookies, crackers, candles and delicious food. Even though we here in South Africa have warmer weather over Christmas the idea of a White Christmas is always at the back of my mind… So creating a cosy feel is what I try to go for.
Setting the scene with a Christmas tree
I have no idea when you are supposed to start setting up your Christmas tree every year, so always end up doing it in a terrible rush. Yolandi had a stunning white artificial Christmas tree that set the scene for our shoot. We used some bold black and off-white Christmas baubles that we ‘pimped’ and South Africanify (Is that even a word?!) with these lovilee proudly South African Gold animal Christmas tree ornaments, complete with wings that Gonk handmade. (available at R95 ea from Gonk)
I am all about Black and white Christmas wrapping paper and bought loads at the after-Christmas sales last year… Enough to start my own gift wrapping service I am afraid. I just had to add a little Menagerie Schnauzer plushie under the tree as well!
The Christmas food and snacks
Yolandi took the lead on this, she made some really pretty entrees making use of activate charcoal crackers – YUM! See the recipe on how to make these Ready in 15 minutes Easy Smoked Salmon Bites recipe. She also baked a stunning cake for the shoot which featured the antler cake topper from The Lovilee Shop (sold out).
Christmas Table decorating ideas
I purchased some spotty serviettes and paper plates at H&M home recently which I knew would be perfect for the shoot. I made use of two candle stands that I had to set a warm and cosy feeling and then added some baby’s breath as a runner to the table. I just fell in love with baby’s breath (Gyps) all over as it makes me think of little snow flakes and you literally need so little to make a big impact. The lightbox is available here.
Yolandi had loads of decor pieces that tied in perfectly with the theme and the color scheme, so we used most of her goodies. The glasses were from Weylandts and the Gold utensils are also Yolandi’s from Nicolson Russell, the black ones are the Antique plastic range from Nicolson Russell.
