A few weeks ago I collaborated with some lovilee people to capture some Easter brunch ideas to share with you. I was excited to work with Ankie from the Wooden Spoon Kitchen for the first time in an official ‘business’ capacity and also for the first time with the creatives at The WJ Collection. I just had to include the yummy items from Pauli’s Food Co as well!
When I contacted Ankie (Wooden Spoon Kitchen) about a possible collaboration she jumped right in and I think I was even more excited than her about being able to taste the creations that she cooked up. The shoot actually took place at her home cooking studio in Linden, Johannesburg in her stunning garden. (You might also like to see my first Earthday celebration that also took place at The Wooden Spoon kitchen here.)
Melanie Wessels Photography captured the details so well, she will always be one of my favourite photographers. I met her when I booked her for my own wedding 8 years ago and she and I actually started lovilee together! (Random fact for the day). I was sooo excited to have her part of this shoot as we both have little people in our homes and don’t really get to work together as often as we used to.
Easter brunch food ideas
Brunch has to be my favourite meal of the day, well, something between breakfast and brunch (even my wedding was a brunch). Ankie made the most delicious home-made lemonade with blueberries and lavender, Pineapple, Mango and Turmeric smoothies that looked like custard but tasted even better.
Mustard coloured home made buns – that I’ve never seen before, they are called Lebanese Turmeric knots. Some crazy delicious Bacon and eggplant mini choux pastries and my favourite…. Berrylicious breakfast ice-creams! Who says you can’t have ice-creams in the morning?! I will be sharing some of the recipes with you soonest, but you can get some of them here.
I am sooo chuffed that Pauli’s Food Co also came to the party (or brunch) with their totally delicious condiments. They are perfect for platters or dips for finger foods and even their packaging matched the decor!
Easter decorations
I am in love with all things greenery and stumbled accross some fake figs at a nursery that I wanted to use for the shoot. They were initially on one long branch but I pulled them off and by using some real fig tree leaves with the faux fix they actually looked pretty real. I started decorating the table in layers of greenery starting with the fig leaves, then adding some smaller greenery items and ending it off with some proteas and white hydrangeas.
I then made some air dry clay Easter egg decorations that I will also share the full DIY with you in due course. Over the December holidays my mom teached me how to crochet and I tried my hand at some crochet Easter eggs that I saw in The Mollie Makes magazine. If you want to give them a try as well you can see the full how to? in this link.
I first stumbled across the The WJ Collection and their cement items at a local market. I really really liked their products and wanted to use them for the shoot. Cement wares have become very popular of late and I thought that adding the items to the shoot would just tie the whole look together perfectly.
I would LOVE to hear what you think of this shoot! Do you think you’d be able to replicate some of what we did for your own Easter brunch table or Easter menu?
