It is that time of the month again where I announce the next creative challenge- DIY cotton rope baskets. What is the Creative Challenge? Read all about it lower down on the page. It is essentially a challenge that I put forward for you to participate in during the month, showcase your images, ask advice and get interactive with other lovilee readers.
I LOVE following the posts on the Lia Griffith website and received a post on making DIY cotton baskets in the mail. Whilst on a mission to Timbercity I stumbled across the cotton rope that you need to do it and knew I had to buy it.
What you need for this project
- Cotton rope / clothesline (I have no idea how much was on the roll, there were 2 sizes, I took the smaller roll and still managed to make 3 mini baskets)
- Sewing machine
- Thread of your colour choice
- Scissors
- Sewing pins
- Glue gun
- Petersham or Cotton Ribbon
Making these baskets were really really easy, except for the fact that my sewing machine did not want to play along. The unevenness of the stitching is something that I think adds to the character of the baskets though. I found it totally therapeutic shaping my mini basket and even made use of some black thread in the bottom bobbin to create a unique look. I added a cotton ‘tag’ that not only looks awesome but also hides the end of the basket well. This I stuck on with a glue gun.
