DIY Valentine's Day gum ball machine with Cricut Maker

Materials needed

  • Clear Christmas baubles (fillable)
  • Colorful sweets – the brighter the better!
  • Paper cups (pink and red)
  • A glue gun
  • Sharp scissors (Cricut brand recommended)
  • Bakers Twine or Ribbon
  • Cricut Light Grip cutting Mat
  • Cricut Fine Point Blade (the blade you use most for cutting vinyl, paper and thin card stock)
  • Cricut black 0.4mm pen
  • Cricut Cutting Machine
  • Cardstock (pink and red)

How to use the write then cut function with the Cricut Maker?

The Cricut Pens work with the Cricut Maker, Explore and Joy. It is soooo much fun seeing your creation come to life! All the tags perfectly drawn – I chews you…

  1. Open the Cricut Design Space and access the pre-designed I Chews You – Valentine’s Day Gum-ball machine DIY template.
  2. Use the Light Grip cutting mat and place the Cricut Pen in Clamp A., the blade will stay in ‘Clamp B’.
  3. Select the medium cardstock option, load your mat, and follow prompts for writing and cutting.

PS: If you have a Cricut Joy, Design Space will have you install the pen first. Once the drawing is complete, you’ll be prompted to install the fine point blade thereafter as it only has one Clamp.

Assembling the Gum Ball Machine

  1. Attach a small heart flag to the cup using a glue gun.
  2. Make a small hole in the cup top for inserting the bauble, using a sharp pair of scissors.
  3. Fill the bauble with sweets, then glue it to the cup.
  4. Tie a tag around the bauble using bakers twine.

What is the Cricut Design Space (DS)?
