Myang was founded by Sarah Massey-Hicks, a talented designer who started making children’s shoes in her mom’s garage with the help of two part-time seamstresses. Her designs, radiating a strong sense of fun, caught the attention of Margi Sheard, a seasoned entrepreneur with a love of design and a desire to become involved in upliftment projects for women from disadvantaged communities.
This was the start of a burgeoning business, with an ever-expanding range of products which have drawn admiration from many quarters, including international markets, since its official founding in 2012.
Myang runs a small design studio and production facility in Port Elizabeth, where it presently employs five full-time staff. A further six part-time employees are given materials and training to create a range of handmade clothing and toys for the Myang label at their homes. This allows them to continue caring for their families, whilst earning an income.
Q: Why the name “Myang”?
While Sarah was doing her final range at Tech, she had to come up with a name for the label and after days of deliberating, she decided to name it after her Cat, Myang. Because none of the designs are run of the mill, she decided that this name will work perfectly since Myang is such a quirky little cat. When you look at the branding, you will see that Myang is featured in all her glory.
Q: What exactly does Myang offer?
Myang has an extended range of baby shoes available in the following sizes: 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-12 months and 12-18 months. Accessories include hats, scarves, headbands and beanies for ages up to 3 years old. There is also a section for baby linen and toys for baby boys and girls.
Q: Where can I buy Myang baby shoes and accessories?
Myang has outlets all over the country and also in Namibia. A list of stockists are available on their website.
