Janre & Colene tied the knot at Kaleo Guest Farm in Ceres a rustic affair in desert-like surroundings. The décor was filled with desert roses (that the couple grew themselves), old books, vintage glasses purchased from thrift stores and bunnies! Most of the flowers on the tables were from friend’s and family’s gardens. The bride’s mom did all the arrangements and they were given as favours to each of the ladies in attendance. The men received an envelope with bunny key ring holders attached to the Polaroid photo board.
In addition Colene’s Maid of honour and her boyfriend painted the menu plates and also the hearts in the church. The confetti containers were also made from re-purposed books. Veronique Photography was there to capture the day and details.
How did you meet?
We met through mutual friends. Janre worked up in Africa and we just had some casual conversations up till then. In November 2013 he came to the Cape for a holiday and this is where our romance started. We got engaged almost a year later and married five months after that!
Tell us more about the engagement?
Whilst Janre was working in Botswana we saw very little of each other. One Friday night we were making pizzas at home, me just adding the finishing touches and looking for a cutting board. When I turned I saw him with a little black box in hand. I asked him what the box contained, but he just smiled and tried to open it {It was the wrong way around, so took quite some time and effort…}. Finally the box opened and he went down on one knee and popped the question!!!
Do you have any advice for brides to be?
I think that it is important to realise that you cannot plan for everything on the day. Not everything can or will be perfect, organising a wedding is hard work, ask your bridesmaids to assist! Enjoy your special day, you might see the imperfections, but no-one else knows how it was supposed to look or be.
Other lovilees that made the day possible included:
Hair & make-up: Anette Haughton
Cake: Nina Joubert
Dress: Stefanie Radyn
