Western Cape photographer, Claire Thomson captured the special day of Zane and Veronique at La Maison De Promesse in Yzerfontein, Western Cape. Both Zane and Veronique are ex-pat South Africans living in New Zealand that met on a dating website. Their first face to face meetup was on a beach in Auckland which turned into sitting on the beach for five hours, just talking like old friends. From that point onward they became inseparable…
Veronique wore gold Haviannas on her wedding day because these were the very pair of shoes she was wearing when Zane dropped on one knee, on the beautiful beach they were relaxing on, and asked her to spend the rest of her life with him. I wish the two fo you many years of love and contentment!
Tell us more about the proposal:
Zane planned a surprise weekend getaway. We ended up in a small beach town called Tairua in beautiful house with magnificent views. On the Saturday morning he suggested that we go to Cathedral Cove a nearby Scenic beach.
Getting to Cathedral Cove was a bit of a hike and muddy so I insisted that we rather divert to a closer bay, Stingray Bay. The weather was beautifully sunny. The beach was gorgeous. And we had the entire bay to ourselves. While I sat sunbathing Zane made an excuse to go “exploring” behind one of the boulders.
He came back and immediately went down on his knee. We were both so emotional. He asked me if I would do him the honour of being his wife. He opened the crystal ring case and I was blown away by my stunning engagement ring. Of course I said yes! Then he brought out a cheese platter and champagne. He had hidden everything in his camera bag.
Do you have any advice for engaged couples?
- Getting a wedding planner was the best thing we did. It meant that we could focus on the occasion, on what it meant for us rather than trying run around getting things organized. Our wedding was wonderfully stress-free.
- Have a budget and stick to it. This is another thing a wedding planner can assist you with. Use local suppliers.
- Remember it is your wedding, let your celebration be reflection of who you are and not the expectation of others.
- Get a good photographer. Our photographer was wonderful. Like a lot of people I do not really like my photos being taken. Claire made me feel at ease. I forgot she was there which meant I look happy and relaxed in the photos (except in the ones where I am crying during the ceremony).
