I recently decided that it was time for a bedroom revamp and what better way than to start with some paint! I feel that paint is the one of the cheapest and easiest ways to transform a room.
If you’ve followed lovilee for a while you might have remembered my previous bedroom revamp just over two years ago. I opted for a black chalkboard accent wall behind our bed. Whilst the look and idea was very nice the actual wall turned into a bit of a mess. I just could not get the wall as clean as the newly painted version after drawing on it, which drove me nuts, and then there was a little someone that touched it with oily fingers, leaving terrible marks that mommy tried to clean with Mentholated Spirits {by the way… A NO NO!}. The Spirits took half the paint off and, and, and…
Anyways… It was time for a change, Prominent Paints was kind enough to share a can of Evolve {Colour: Moonshadow} paint with me to test drive it for you lovilees. I enjoyed working with the paint. Their innovative see-through paint can colour and the finished colour was very close. The paint itself was thick and easy to paint with. I first had to Prime the wall because of the chalkboard paint and proceeded to do two coats with the Evolve paint. I used approximately 2 litres on our wall of 3.5m wide x 2.2m high.
What surprised me was the fact that the paint was virtually odourless. I remember having to sleep in our spare room for a week for the chalkboard paint’s smell to subside. Even though this is the case with most of the oil based paints vs. the water based paints I can vouch for the fact that Evolve has even less of an odour than your conventional water based paints.
I then ordered some vinyl triangles from friendy Liezel from Match Set Love {available in her store here in a variety of colours here!}. I used almost two sheets of vinyl for the wall, 40 triangles in total {24 per sheet}, but did not stick any behind the bed or the side-tables. My cousin Lorraine, all the way from the Free State helped me get the look perfected! Liezel was also kind enough to specially design a special ‘LOVE’ arrow poster for me and I added it to a frame I got on special from Entrepo. The posters are available in A4 or A3 size.
The ‘His & Hers’ cushions that I got from Zana Products actually sparked the whole colour concept and scheme. I paired them with some black and white chevron cushions as well as plain black from Mr Price Home. For the bed I am still using my Biggie Best Duvet I got four years ago for a wedding present and then added some nifty lamps from Mr Price Home again.
Other things in the room include:
My crochet cushion from Crafters Market with a brooch from Purouge/Heartfelt.
Mirror from Lots & Crates, my re-vamped sewing table and my Goosegrease cake toppers that I made for our wedding.
In the blackboards’ defence, we had a lot of fun!
