Shutters have just become more affordable!

Shutters are that one thing that can take your house from almost perfect to fabulous, but if you have ever gotten a quote they tend to be crazy expensive. But, things have changed thanks to Mediterranean Lifestyle‘s new Alpine timber shutters range… Shutters have just become more affordable!

Since I dawn of Pinterest I had been pinning various interior ideas and inspiration with loads of them including shutters. Last year our neighbours had Shutters installed and I was green looking out of the window daily, swooning all over them. I started getting quotes and soon I realised that I was going to have to save for longer than I had expected to make my dreams a reality.

The history of shutters

People have used window shutters on their houses for hundreds of years, primarily because of the durability, classic style and easy maintenance that shutters provide. It is difficult to determine the exact origins of shutters, but it is widely believed that they were first used in ancient Greece in order to provide light control, ventilation and protection in their tropical environment.

Shutters are a great way to add value to a home as they are considered fixtures. Meaning that you are not allowed to take them with when you sell your home. They are in any case very unlikely to be the perfect fit for your new home as they are custom made to fit your windows and doors.

The Quotes

I had comparative quotes from two other Shutter installers in Johannesburg at the end of last year. Both also quoting in Timber shutters for two windows in our lounge. The first being a bay window with 4 panels and the second a standard window also with 4 panels in white.

The Mediterranean Lifestyle Alpine shutters R18 245 for the two windows and the other 2 companies were over R4 000 more expensive on these two windows.

I thought I would get another quote to compare on a Shutterguard 5 panel installation on a double door in another part of our home. Quote 1 R27 505 Ex Vat and the quote by Mediterranean Lifestyle on this security shutter R22 424 Ex Vat.

Why are these new Mediterranean Lifestyle Alpine shutters so much more affordable?

  • This range of shutters are manufactured right here in South Africa from 100% timber.
  • The Alpine range is exclusive to Mediterranean Lifestyle from their offices in Johannesburg and Durban. They are not supplied through agents or any kind of middleman that could add a mark-up.
  • They are suitable for indoor use only.
  • These timber shutters come in a standard white but custom painted colours are available at an additional cost and delivery premium.

Designed to be cost effective while still maintaining quality and detailed finishing, they come with a 5 year warranty. So, if you are curious about the actual price of the shutters? They start at R2800 per M² ex Vat. The lead time on the standard white options are 15 to 20 working days.

The excitement was real when Mediterranean Lifestyle contacted me after assisting with a fabulous makeover over on the Ask Ashe blog. I will soon be sharing some before and afters of my lounge makeover with them soon! So keep an eye on my Instagram Stories to stay in loop with what is happening behind the scenes.
