Friends of mine Harry + Jenni tied the knot earlier this year and I was privileged enough to share their special day with them. The wedding took place at the Woodridge Country Hotel in Balgowan, Kwa Zulu Natal, photographer CC Rossler was there to capture every moment, assisted by Paul Reichle.
The couple met as students in a digs in Cape Town – thanks to an add on gumtree. They landed up having bedrooms next door to each other, became friends and the rest is history! We were all holding thumbs for Harry to propose on a trip to Europe, but he managed to surprise us all by popping the question on his birthday at their house. He did, in his defence plan a romantic picnic that rained out…
Six months after popping the question the couple tied the knot. There were plenty DIY’ing and details on and before the day from the stationary designed by Jenni to popcorn boxes with home-made tags, spray-painted vases on the tables, as they couldn’t find the right shape ceramic vases. My favourite details on the day were the table numbers made from Wooden blocks with custom vinyls by Match Set Love. The blocks were all sanded and painted by mother of the bride.
There were plenty of eats and drinks and entertainment for us whilst the couple were taking photos and we had such fun!
The couple opted for table cards for guests to fill out instead of a guest book – just a fun way to remember where everyone was living at the time, how they got to the wedding, how much fun they were having, etc as well as DJ cards for song requests, all designed by the bride herself. Jenni’s mom also did all the flower arrangements on the tables.
Any advice for engaged couples?
Don’t wait too long after getting engaged to get married, it will just drag out all the planning and stress you out more. Try to be involved in all the planning as much as possible, you only get to do it once and it’s so amazing and rewarding when you see how well it comes together.
HAVE FUN!!! when it came to the day, I didn’t not have a care in the world, I trusted that everything would be perfect and I just had fun with my bridesmaids – it’s too late to panic on the day
Other lovilees that made the day possible included:
Vinyls: Match Set Love | Buttonholes/badges: Gin and Tee | Make-up: Lynne Harris | Dress: De la Vida
