This updated guest room makeover with Prominent Paints was something that had to happen after we decided to remove the carpets from our guest bedroom and clean the parquet flooring that was hidden underneath. I am soooo glad that we finally got rid of our manky carpets to reveal the pretty wooden floors, but my oh my was it a dusty mess. Even through we tried to seal off the rest of the house to the dust, it managed to literally get everywhere!
We tried cleaning the walls afterwards, but after washing I realised that a paint was definitely needed. We also moved around some of the built in cupboards in the room. I am sooo miffed that I did not take before images of the cupboards but at least I have some other pretties to show you in the room.
Choosing paint colors
For the wall color I wanted a grey that matched with the lightest grey in the tiles and had a custom mix grey which I liked but was some kind of concoction that I mixed myself. I took the paint as well as a tile to Prominent Paints Blairgowrie to get a color mixed and was sooooo impressed. The process took 45 minutes which gave me time to grab a coffee at the nursery close by and when I got back the paint was mixed and there was a painted swatch for me to look at to confirm whether I was happy. I am really happy with both the service that I received as well as the color of the paint. Could not have done this better myself!
Thank you to everyone who helped me decide on the art placing behind the bed on my Instagram stories. Just to keep you in the loop – you might want to have a look at my previous room makeover that I also did with Prominent Paints here.
And Now…
The rest of the makeover
The previous owners changed one of the windows into a bay window so the parquet was not laid in the actual window. I WANTED a specific hexagonal tile that I have been swooning over at one of the prettiest coffee shops in Jo’burg – That Spot on 4th. They were so kind to send me an image of the box and I managed to get my hands on some of the pretties!!! The idea was to cut the tiles into the wooden floors to create a seamless instead of an added on look.
Before
After
Another addition to the room was my husbands’ family heirloom piano, a gorgeous black piano that just needed a place to style! I had been Pinning away ideas on how to get this baby looking its prettiest self and this is what I came up with. (Now we just need to learn how to play…)
If you were wondering where I got some of the items in the room here is a list –
- Bunny print available on Etsy (affiliate link)
- 1 Cor 13 print available on Etsy (affiliate link)
- White A2 Frames by Country Road from Woolworths (What I love about these frames are that they fit both A2 and A3 images, so 2 for the price of 1)
- Side lights are from IKEA Nederland
- Bedding is from H&M home
- Pom Pom cushions from Superbalist.com
- Squares Poster on Piano was printer via Nifty250
