Christopher Smith Photography captured Derick & Mariaan’s special rustic glam wedding at the end of last year at The Stone Cellar in Heidelberg, Gauteng. Even though this couple were in the same primary school, friends of friends, they only started dating after they matriculated.
Tell us more about the proposal and time leading up to the wedding?
One day after work, I (Mariaan) got home, and there our place was transformed into a the most romantic place. Candles everywhere, flowers scattered, ‘our song’ playing in the background, a bottle of champagne, a 3 course meal prepared for us and Derick on his knee asking me to spend the rest of my life with him!
We heard about this gorgeous venue, and without any plans on setting a date, we went to go view the venue and immediately fell in love. We set our date straight away and got married one year later.
Were there any DIY projects?
Our friends and family started collecting empty bottles for our centrepieces when we told them about idea, so for a year our place was full of wine bottle. And there, one week before the wedding, my sister is sitting on the floor spraying about 60 bottles.
We did our own save the date website and all the wedding stationary. Derick’s Aunt assisted with the table runners, napkins and curtains and Derick’s father made our beautiful frame for the main table seating.
