Yesterday I shared this months’ Creative challenge with you – making soft toys, my result is Goldie, a fabric doll that is both pretty and relatively easy to make. I have been following the See Kate Sew blog for a few years, but have really started paying attention to to the sewing tutorials now that I have a little princess of my own. Kate, resides in the US and covers unique and easy sewing tutorials for cute little ones and pregnant fairies.
I discovered her blog through a Pin on Pinterest of a triangle quilt. Most of us think of florals when it comes to quilts but Kate’s quilts are really quite modern in design. Off-course this mommy-to-be only read half of the post and went to purchase all of the fabrics for the nursery. Upon reading further I realised that Kate has a retail shop on Spoonflower.com where you can purchase the quilt material printed and just have to do the sewing yourself! See her article and instructions in this link. (You can see I am super chuffed with the result!)
Spoonflower.com is an amazing store where you can order custom printed wallpapers, fabrics and gift-wrap from. I literally went mad when I saw they had free shipping the one day and was so pleased when my order arrived less than two weeks after being posted to me.
But, back to the point… I ordered one of the printed dolls that Kate has in her store from Spoonflower. It was such a fun project to do (not that I am a wizz at sewing, my lovilee neighbour did 90% of the sewing – she is awesome!). Here with the Printed doll tutorial that Kate posted on her site. There are six girl doll designs to choose from. Each doll panel has three skirt pieces printed on it including a cat skirt, a skirt with little X’s across the bottom and a third colored skirt. And you can add the optional pocket, too!
I opted for Goldie. Goldie is a fabric doll with a blonde head of hair and sweet pink cheeks. She loves polka dots and has three pretty skirt options: black and white stripes, blue kitty cat and pink X design. Goldie loves bubblegum ice cream and flying kites! The fabric Panel that you receive will look like the one below.
Then all you have to do is follow the instructions set out in this blog post. And the end result – HAPPINESS!
