Serene winter engagement session with pops of green

This is the first time I get to feature a submission by Dust and Dreams Photography, and this engagement session is totally pretty. Even though our theme this month is all about Grey being the new black, jewel tones and off-course green is totally in this year. This serene winter engagement shoot of couple Pieter and Loren took place on the Dawson’s Game & Trout Lodge in Barberton, Mpumalanga on a cosy winter’s afternoon.

The Inspiration
The colours we chose for this winter engagement shoot were earthly neutral tones of beiges and grey with a touch of green by adding a little creative flair with an emerald green dress a scarf and hat. This was complimented the soft pastel tones of our surroundings and the golden hour just before sunset. We made creative use of the scenery by incorporating natural elements and photographing at unique trees and aloes on the farm.

Our wish was to create a collection of moments that best reflect our relationship. We love to be outdoors, and both have common ground in the peace and tranquillity we find when appreciating nature. The Autumn and Winter tones of the Low veld surroundings inspired our wardrobe choices. We wished to create photos that look authentic and natural with a sense of nostalgia.

Their love story
We met in the surgical ward of a hospital in Bloemfontein, South Africa. I was a third year medical student and Pieter was 4th year at the time. I had been assigned to him for the surgical rotation , and he was meant to tutor me and sharpen my clinical skills. Turns out I needed extra tutoring … I call this our ‘Grey’s Anatomy moment”.

The proposal
We had long planned a Cape Winelands trip, moving from Tulbagh to Franschoek, Stellenbosch and ending in Cape Town. He loves farms, and well, I love wine…so what better place to be than a wine farm? After a beautiful trip around the majestic Franshoek we retreated back to our accommodation for the night – la Terra de luc. We were the only guests at this time, and nature was definitely showing off. We went for a walk to the rose garden which encircled a large pond, and just as I was about to make my way back to our room, I was pleasantly surprised by him on one knee – 04 October 2016 – the day I said YES to spending the rest of forever with my person.
