Some of you will remember my old sewing table that we used as part of the ‘Sew in Love‘ valentines day’ shoot with images by Marinda May Photography. After the shoot I did a DIY sewing table make-over and am now using this table as dressing table in our master bedroom.
The table was one that my mom stumbled across years ago, that was thrown out and has been in their house for over 15 years. It had a panel missing on the top that I closed up with 6mm glass that I had cut to size by Bryanston Glass. It is suggested that you never use less than a 4mm glass on table tops. They were also able to cut the corners round to perfectly fit into the space. I then used some silver vinyl (not so easy to do) to the bottom of the glass.
The painting ended up being slightly harder work than anticipated. I sanded off the table and painted it with a undercoat. The problem was that my sanding was not that thorough and the undercoat that was supposed to be white turned yellow. I had to sand it all off again and re-applied the undercoat. Afterwards I used a white semi-sheen enamel paint to give it two more coats, sanding the coats lightly in between and afterwards more on the spots that I wanted to look ‘worn’. Note that you need to use a foam roller for the process and small brush for the difficult to reach spots.
Lastly I added some ‘bling-bling’ with the crystal handles and added a loose frame from Lots & Crates to top it off. The chair is from Edgars Home that I got on their 50% off sale earlier in this year. Thank you to Lika Photography for taking the lovilee images of the sewing table after the re-vamp.
