The lovilee little flower-girl designer dresses by Soapbox Kids grabbed my attention at the Wedding Expo earlier this year. How surprised was I to realise that Kristen Masters, the creative behind Soapbox was also the owner of Garnish, the Bridal Haute Couture design label. A label that is well known for some signature elements including the use of beautiful laces and hand dyed colours.
How did your business start up?
Soapbox was born from a love fabrics, hand-dyed colours, intricate detailing and beautiful embellishments.
I was inspired to launch Soapbox after I had a child of my own and realised what little there was out there in the way of specialised clothing for kids. Nothing I saw ever made me excited or made me “have” to buy it… Little girls are such fun and exciting market to design for. They love nothing more then dressing up!
We have been designing and custom-making wedding gowns at Garnish for over 13 years. Because of this I have a well established infrastructure that already exists. With the birth of my new brand Soapbox, I have utilised this infrastructure for the production of these gorgeous hand crafted little dresses. I not only design them but they are all made in-house, by my own talented staff. Each dress is cut, sewn and intricately embellished by hand.
Do you do custom orders?
This is not something I consciously intended but since we launched we have had so many requests. Recently we custom designed and made a Ladybug themed dress for a 3rd birthday party. This is definitely something we will offer from now on!
Where can lovilees purchase your products?
Currently our designer dresses are only available on www.soapboxkids.co.za but we are currently in talks with selected stores countrywide who are interested in stocking the Soapbox brand. I would say that our range will be available in stores soon, so be on the lookout!
What is the current flower girl trend?
When it comes to dressing kids, I don’t think its always about trending. I think it’s about colour, maybe a theme, maybe even a fantasy. Kids have such imaginations and very few inhibitions, and girls just want to feel like princesses all the time!
