I am head over heels with this Natural, soft tone wedding palette of this submission. You just have to visit my Instagram timeline to see how much I really really do love muted colours at the mo. (also see the minimalistic earth tone shoot featured) Couple, Niel and Natasha Vermeulen, married one chilly day in the middle of Cape Town’s winter. The dark clouds revealed blue skies every now and then, giving just enough dramatic light to bring out the beautiful winter tones of the venue.
These two high school sweethearts, who had been best friends since they were 16, said ‘I do’ in a bronze tipped chapel surrounded by dear family and friends at Vondeling Wine Estate in the Western Cape. Helena Krige from YeahYeah Photography was there to capture the special day which took around 6 months of planning.
After the ceremony guests enjoyed a warm drink and live music while we braved the cold for some photos. It’s always worth braving the cold – the newlyweds just had to snuggle up nice and tight to keep warm! The new Mr & Mrs Vermeulen made their entrance to the cozy reception hall where a fire was blazing and the wine was waiting. We listened to friends and family tell all kinds of heart warming stories about the couple. After lots of laughter and a few tears, dinner was served, the cake was cut and the dance floor was open!
How make a natural, soft tone wedding palette work
‘Natural’ and ‘Nature’ goes together, make use of natural elements like greenery for your decor. Brown paper or kraft paper elements is a great compliment to the look and tying it in with whites or off-shites will complete the look. It is important to choose a venue that will tie in with the look that you want to achieve and set the scene for your special day.
The DIY wedding details
The groom started off the wedding planning by finding the venue, organising food, a DJ etc. Natasha enjoyed sorting out the ‘fun’ things that included the flowers, cake, decor etc.
The couple tried to save money where possible. They hung wreaths from the ceiling which they made by twisting ivy around hula hoops and securing it with gut. Natasha made the place cards with cardboard, a punch and small strips of rosemary. The seating plan was also homemade – a simple wooden frame with string and cardboard table settings pegged to the string. Most of the flowers were arranged by friends and family – nothing too complicated, just eucalyptus leaves and ivy. The favours were homemade as well – boxes were printed and cut out by a family friend and put together by the bridesmaids. We filled them with home baked crunchies and biscotti.
Keep it simple. Delegate – people want to help, so let them. You can’t do it all on your own. Take time out as a couple to relax and talk about things other than wedding planning.
