George and Jolandi tied the knot at the Triggerfish Brewery in Somerset West. The venue with its raw interiors is simply breathtaking (would LOVE to do a styled session here). Their decor was filled with greenery and interesting other elements like old lamps and books. The lace & crochet bunting and lace runners obviously also caught my eye. The photographer on the day was Helena from Yeahyeah Photography. I just loved the look and feel of this couples’ special day.
George returned to SA after living abroad for almost 20 years and ended up attending a wine club evening with friends in PTA, whilst Jolandi (then a student at UP eager to make a few bucks) was assigned designated driver for the evening. The mysterious George got hold of her contact details after a few failed attempts and they reconnected a few months later on her birthday in Herolds Bay. There was no turning back after a wine and laughter filled evening with their best friends, who were also their best man and woman on the wedding.
We opted to get married sooner rather than later and got engaged on the 19th of December 2014 and married on the 21st of February 2015. It gave us about two months to get everything done, which was more than enough time.
Was the groom involved in any of the planning?
Yes, since we only had 2 months to get everything done he was assigned to make some of the décor and took over all of the arrangements with the venue – and was in charge of the music, since he and his best man played during the wedding.
DIY details
We tried to do most of the things ourselves.
- We made and cut wood logs which some of the food were served on.
- All the direction boards were cut, made and painted by friends.
- The groom made the “swing” which the drinks and snacks were served on at the reception, as well as the wooden boards which served as plates(which we just covered with baking paper).
- We did most of the set up the morning of the wedding together with friends and family until it was time to get dresses(yes we were late and had to get ready in record time), we partied until 3am the next morning and had to get up at 7am to clean up afterwards. Worth it every bit!
